Social Purpose: 5 Reasons Why Your Business Needs to Have One

Businesses that have a social purpose stand out in today's world. Apart from earning profits for the company, other factors contribute equally towards making a business successful. One such factor is fulfilling social and moral responsibilities. Companies that stay committed to their social responsibility and fulfil their social and moral duties have quite an edge over companies that do not.

Having a social purpose is not just limited to big organisations. Small business ventures often live and breathe with the implicit goal of helping others and protecting the planet.

Apart from giving you the satisfaction of having done something for society, there are 5 other reasons why your business needs to have a social purpose.

1. Employees are Highly Satisfied

Not every employee is drawn towards attractive pay cheques or salaries. Other factors equally play a significant role, and one such factor is social purpose. Hence, having a social purpose for your company will make the employees feel that they are contributing to society and feel self-driven to work with you. As a result, a feeling of satisfaction will develop among them.

2. Improves Your Financial Performance

It has been found that companies who incorporate social purpose activities tend to give better financial performance and growth in comparison to the organisations that focus primarily on profit-making.

3. Ensures Your Sustainability

You can seek a lot of attention from investors to fund your organisation, as investors today are increasingly driven towards companies with a social purpose. With a genuine social purpose, and staying committed to creating a positive social impact, there is no stopping you from standing out among the sea of companies looking for investors.

4. Attract New Customers and Retain Old Ones

Companies that exist to do something for society not only benefits the community but create a good name for the company as well. By committing to a social purpose, you can make a positive impact on the customers. All you need is to build their trust and stay committed to the social purpose that you serve. It will help you attract new customers and retain old ones.

5. Helps You to Draw Inspiration

Customers feel highly associated with you when you share the social purpose of your business with them. It helps to build a connection between you and the customer. It works to and fro; you share your social purpose with them, and in return, they will share their passion and interest with you.

Takeaway

Putting social purpose at the heart of your business benefits all your stakeholders – from customers and employees to your shareholders. Put your social purpose on display to inspire and attract them all by demonstrating your social impact on Atb.world.

How Can Storytelling Create Social Change?

We all have heard stories in our childhood from our grandparents and parents. They have become an important part of our childhood. In fact, there are stories within each one of us that are often left unsaid because we think that who will listen to our story or what will change if we tell our stories?

What we often forget is that stories are a powerful medium through which many great changes took place. They can inspire people and lit the spark of movements that have snowballed into great revolutions.

Example of Storytelling that Brought Social Change

There are so many stories around us that have the potential to bring social change to the world. While we get to know some stories because of ordinary people who chose to be storytellers, many stories are waiting to be found.

One such example of impactful storytelling is that of Malala Yousafzai. Though not a professional, she took the role of a storyteller and gave her voice to millions of girls in Pakistan who had no right to education. As her story gained momentum and more people joined her cause, she got success. It was because of her only that Pakistan passed the Right to Education Bill in 2012. The bill guaranteed that all children (between 5-16) have access to free education.

Imagine what would have happened if Malala thought that her voice would have no impact? Many girls in Pakistan would still be deprived of their right to education. It only strengthens the belief that storytelling is a powerful tool for bringing positive social change to the world.

How you can create social impact through storytelling

We may not realise it, but deep in our hearts, we all are creative storytellers. Whether we narrate an exciting event to our friend or tell the plot of a movie in our own way, we are doing storytelling.

Many people want to speak out and tell their story but are stopped by the fear of public speaking. What they forget is that storytelling is not limited to speaking in front of everyone on the stage. You can even write your story. If you are one of them, then Atb.world is just for you. As a social purpose platform, Atb.world allows you to share your stories and connect with organisations or causes you believe in.

If you think you have stories that inspire and have the power to pull at people's emotions and grab their attention, join Atb.world and share your story.
